Come and find out
what NOC and the Day of Remembrance event is all
about.
|
| |
"9066 to 9/11: America's Concentration Camps,
Then...and Now" is a short documentary that
draws
parallels between the treatment of Japanese
Americans during World War II and the treatment of
Arab Americans and Muslims in this country after
9/11. As the United States
government fights a "War on Terrorism" with no end
in sight, its tactics and policies have caused a
frightening sense of deja vu for some
Americans of Japanese descent. After a short
discussion of this film, people are welcome to stay
to talk about ideas
for next year's
Day
of Remembrance event. Contact
info@sjnoc.org for more info. |

Commission Hearings for Japanese
Latin Americans |
| |
 |
|
This summer, the
Campaign For Justice and several members
of NOC met with Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren to
discuss the urgency in establishing hearings on
the issue of redress for Japanese Latin Americans.
From December 1941 to February 1948, the
U.S. government orchestrated and financed
the mass abduction, forcible deportation and
internment of 2,264 men, women, and children
of Japanese ancestry from 13 Latin American
countries. |
| NOC strongly supports
efforts to acknowledge and redress the
fundamental injustices suffered by Japanese
Latin Americans
during WWII. H.R. 662, the
"Commission on Wartime Relocation and
Internment of Latin Americans of Japanese
Descent Act," is at a critical stage and
a hearing that was originally scheduled for
the end of July within a House Judiciary
Subcommittee chaired by U.S. Congresswoman, Zoe Lofgren,
has been taken off the calendar and has not
been rescheduled. For more
information on what you can do to support
this effort to establish the hearings, visit the Campaign for Justice
website (http://www.campaignforjusticejla.org). |
